Puerto Penasco or better known as Rocky Point

The WINs headed down to Rocky Point to park on Sandy Beach for a week, but several of us decided to only go down for a few days and we stayed at the Playa Bonita Resort.

The pool and hot tub were right outside our door.

And our patio overlooked the beach.

This was the view from the front of the hotel.

We also visited JJ's Cantina, at Cholla Bay. There motto says it all, "If you haven't been to JJ's, you haven't been to Rocky Point".

The view out the back of JJ's. But the day we were there it was pretty empty.

We also went to another popular hot spot, Manny's.

But once again we found the place empty.

I like Manny's motto.

We headed back to the downtown area to find a place for dinner. While we were waiting I fed the sea gulls.

Every place we went was empty. We saw very few people on the streets and we were the only people eating at the restaurant. This was not the Rocky Point I had heard about. It was sad. Although there is still the shrimp and fishing industry, most of the town depends on tourism and it just isn't there this year. The locals said it was pretty slow last year as well. Many places have closed up due to lack of business.

But we did have a great view for dinner.

This statue tells the tale of the shrimping history of Rocky Point.

One of the many shops catering to the tourist trade.

Our second day it was cold, windy and the seas were rough.

It did not clear up all day.

We signed up for a sunset cruise and when we arrived at the boat we saw this double rainbow. The rainbow on the left is very faint so I hope you can see it. Because it was so cold all day there weren't enough people signed up for the cruise, so it was cancelled. Maybe next time.

So we went back to the hotel restaurant and met up with our friends who were camping down on the beach. Needless to say, it doesn't take much to amuse us. We bounced this balloon around for at least 30 minutes.

Hey, what a good idea - drive down and stay in a hotel! That's such a shame about the lack of tourists.
