Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Again, I am playing catch up. I was in Theodore Roosevelt National Park early September, and here it is October and I am just now posting about it. But I finally got to visit and spend some time in North Dakota. We spent several days at the park, hiking and sightseeing the area. Theodore Roosevelt loved this area and had a cabin and eventually a ranch here. He like to hunt and that was the reason for wanting to preserve this area, hence the national park. There is still a large herd of wild horses in the park as well as bison and elk, but we only saw the bison and horses.

Here I am in front of Teddy Roosevelt's cabin. It has been restored and has much of his personal items in the cabin.

I just had to post this picture. They call it 'scoria' and have some fancy explanation about it's makeup, but for all I could see, it's just plain old red sandstone like you find in Oklahoma.
